Scholars Residential Program

The Scholars programs are for FALL 2025 ADMITTED FRESHMEN. The programs are one-year living-learning experiences that brings together small cohorts of academically motivated first-year students in the areas of Business, Engineering, Marine Science, and Nursing.

 

Students who are admitted to a Scholars program are guaranteed housing for their first year, with priority placement on the third floor of Waterfront Lofts. 

 Priority consideration for our Scholars programs will be provided to applicants who submit both their admissions and a Scholars application by December 1. You can expect a response to your application by December 31st. 

Business scholars

 

PROGRAM BENEFITS

  • Guaranteed housing, with priority placement on the third floor of the Waterfront Lofts (however, not a requirement for program participation). 
  • Living and learning in a community of motivated students who share common academic interests
  • Guaranteed study abroad experience (optional)
  • Leadership training
  • Work closely with the College of Business Dean, and the Dean’s Council, during your entire educational experience

engineering Scholars 

 

Program Benefits

  • Guaranteed housing, with priority placement on the third floor of the Waterfront Lofts (however, not a requirement for program participation).

  • Be part of a community of intrepid Engineers who share common academic and professional interests

  • Opportunity to participate in a student-led multidisciplinary Design Project in year one, with mentorship and guidance provided by engineering faculty

  •  Exclusive fields trips to Engineering Projects/Firms in both the fall and spring semester of your first year

  • Work closely with a faculty mentor from day one and carve out your own Engineering education.

MARINE SCIENCE SCHOLARS

 

PROGRAM BENEFITS

  • Guaranteed housing, with priority placement on the third floor of the Waterfront Lofts (however, not a requirement for program participation).

  • Living and learning in a community of motivated students who share common academic interests

  • Guaranteed boat access in your first year

  • Group dive certification (cost is your responsibility) arranged to be taken together as a cohort

  • Special academic lectures and opportunities to meet as a cohort with guest speakers

  • Work closely with a faculty mentor from day one

Nursing Scholars 

 

Program Benefits

  • Guaranteed housing, with priority placement on the third floor of the Waterfront Lofts (however, not a requirement for program participation).

  • Living and learning in a community of motivated students who share common academic interests

  • Direct entry into the nursing program* – a benefit available only to Nursing Scholars. All other first-year students must apply to the nursing program during their sophomore year

  • Opportunity to take selected nursing courses (i.e. Transcultural Nursing and Special Topics in Nursing)

  • Receive an experiential introduction into simulation within the first two years

  • Special academic lectures and opportunities to meet as a cohort with guest speakers

  • Work closely with a faculty mentor from day one

*Direct entry conditioned on meeting and maintaining eligibility requirements and academic standards set forth in your Nursing Scholars acceptance letter
