Eligibility, Expectations and Benefits

Eligibility Statement

To qualify for the Hoʻokō Rising Scholars Program (HRSP) at Hawaii Pacific ŷAƬ (HPU), a student needs to have applied, deposited and been accepted to the university. 

The HRSP evaluates student scholars based on financial and academic need. If you are eligible, you will receive an email from the program inviting you to join! 

The best way to help us determine student academic needs are through ACT or SAT scores. However, students can take placement tests for English and Mathematics through the my.hpu.edu student portal. Finally, our HRSP academic coaches will review student transcripts. 

Many of our students who have placed in first-year transitional math or writing courses are able to move on to general education credits in their second semester. 

Expectations

To optimize the likelihood of success within our Hoʻokō students, we have a few expectations that promote academic achievement, fulfillment of career goals, and self-growth. Students will: 

  • Meet with their academic coach twice a month during the school year and once during the summer. 
  • Meet with their career coach once a semester. 
  • Attend credit/no-credit UNIV 1000, 1050, and 2000 (1 credit each) 
  • Attend a workshop once a month during the semester.

  • Offer to participate in puppy and kitten days to de-stress before midterms, finals, and final projects.
