EARN A BSN WITH THE MEDICAL ENLISTED COMMISSIONING PROGRAM (MECP)

MECP candidates must email BSNadmissions@hpu.edu to let us know they are pursuing the MECP. This must be done at least 3 months prior to needing the Conditional Letter of Admittance for the MECP application.

HPU School of Nursing is proud to support our nation’s military members as they pursue their Bachelor in Nursing (BSN) degree through the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP).

 

 

  • Eligible to active duty military students

  • A limited number of students may receive provisional acceptance up to one year in advance

  • Two BSN upper-division program options:
    • Traditional BSN
      • Fall and Spring semester entry terms
      • Four-semester, full-time
    • BSN Pathways [HM to BSN; LPN to BSN; RN to BSN]
      • Fall semester entry term only
      • HM to BSN: Three-semester, full-time
      • LPN to BSN: Three-semester, full-time
      • RN to BSN: Two-semester, full-time

To obtain a provisional letter of acceptance to submit with your MECP program application please follow the steps outlined below:

 

Step 1: Apply to HPU  

New HPU students must apply to Undergraduate Admissions at least three months before the BSN application deadline and/or before provisional admission letter is needed. When applying, ensure application terms matches program start term. Send all official transcripts and TEAS/CLEP/AP/IB score reports to the Admissions Office.

Former HPU students who have been out for more than two semesters must . Send all official transcripts and TEAS/CLEP/AP/IB score reports to the Admissions Office.

Currently enrolled HPU students skip this step.

 

*Students must be admitted to HPU before moving on to step 2. 

 

STep 2: Check all Transfer Course Credits 

Once accepted to HPU, check DegreeWorks [web-based tool for students to monitor their academic progress toward degree or certificate completion] in the account to see how courses have transferred.

Note that during peak application periods, transfer credit evaluation may take 2-3 weeks to complete after admission and official transcripts received. 

 

Step 3: Meet with Academic Advising 

Once official transfer credit evaluation has been completed and visible in your DegreeWorks, you will then want to meet with academic advising. The advisor will determine your academic standing and discuss a plan to meet general requirements for the BSN upper-division program for the indicated start term. The academic advisor will map out the students’ degree plan and communicate this information to the appropriate admissions officer.     

 

Step 4: Admissions review and mecp provisional letter 

If determined eligible, a MECP provisional letter of acceptance is provided to the student.

 

STep 5: Secure official acceptance

Important to note that the student status is provisional admission into the upper-division BSN program, the student must formally apply for the BSN program by the deadline to verify they were selected for the MECP program, and that all upper-division BSN requirements have been met in order to receive official acceptance for the indicated start term.
