Jennifer Goya-Smith is an Assistant Professor of Multimedia at Hawaii Pacific Å·ÃÀAƬ. As a visual artist born and raised in Honolulu, Jen works with multimedia, including video, web, and audio/visual programming. Jen has designed interactive media art that has been exhibited locally and regionally. Recently, a video game about tourist souvenir marketplaces was featured in the Artist of Hawaii 2023 exhibition at Downtown Art Center. In 2021, Jen was awarded the John Young Award for her interactive multimedia installation about Rapid Ohia Death during the Artist of Hawaii Now exhibition at the Honolulu Museum of Art.
Jen has been teaching digital media art for over 15 years. Her most memorable teaching experiences includes working with middle schoolers and their grandparents on how to make family history web pages in partnership with the Holyoke YMCA in Holyoke, MA; facilitating video editing workshops with students at the South Bronx Charter School for Tribeca Film Institute’s Tribeca Teaches program; participating in service learning on Kahoolawe with Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission and high school digital art students from Mid-Pacific Institute; and teaching active and veteran service members how to do blind contour line drawings at Schofield Barracks for Hawaii Pacific Å·ÃÀAƬ’s Military Campus Program.
