Dr. Malji is an Associate Professor of International Studies at Hawaiʻi Pacific Å·ÃÀAƬ and is currently the chair of the History, Humanities, and International Studies department. She joined the faculty Å·ÃÀAƬ in 2017 and teaches courses in Political Science, International Studies, and the MA program in Diplomacy and Military Studies. Before becoming dept chair she served as the chair for the International Studies major. In 2021, she created a new interdisciplinary minor in Human Rights.
Dr Malji was named a Fulbright Nehru scholar in 2021 and carried out research on inter-religious peace-building in the Indian state of Kerala. In 2021, she was also selected as HPU's Teacher of the Year. In 2022, she received HPU's Golden Apple Award for excellence in scholarship.
Dr. Malji's research focuses on peace, religion, and security with a regional specialization in South Asia (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Myanmar). Since 2019, Dr. Malji has published 1 book and more than 12 articles and book chapters. Her book "Religious Nationalism in Contemporary South Asia" was published with Cambridge Å·ÃÀAƬ Press Elements in 2022.
