A team of HPU students, Team SOJU, secured a third-place win in the 2022 Hawai‘i Annual Code Challenge (HACC) on Saturday, Nov. 5. Montaye Adams, Truong Nguyen, Madilynn Dephillips, and Ahn Pham, who are students in Edward Souza’s CSCI 3301 Database Technologies class took on the challenge of the State of Hawai‘i Office of Planning and Sustainable Development, working on building the TODInfoCollector (transit-oriented development) with the Salesforce platform. HACC awarded HPU Team SOJU a $1,000 prize for its win in the No Code/Low Code Solutions category.

The 2022 HACC competition kicked off on Oct. 15 with 44 teams engaged in a tech competition, selecting from a list of challenges proposed by the Department of Education, Office of Planning and Sustainable Development, Office of Enterprise Technology Services, Å·ÃÀAƬ of Hawaii-Manoa, and NIC Hawaii. After the technical review, 17 teams, including HPU Team SOJU, moved on to the presentation phase. In its 7th year, the HACC competition generates proof-of-concepts by student, amateur, and professional coders to benefit community and State agencies at the idea-phase level. The competition is a State of Hawai‘i event coordinated by the Office of Enterprise Technology Services, hacc.hawaii.gov.
