HPU students participated in the Maui Strong season finale canoe race sponsored by Imua One Blade.
On October 8, 2023, many HPU students participated in the Maui Strong season finale canoe race with the sponsorship of Imua One Blade. This was the first race for HPU students and unfortunately the last of the season; however, as the year ends, there is a bright and promising future for the HPU paddling club start-up.
Many familiar faces participated from HPU, including the President and Vice President of the Student Government Association Andrea Maminta and Pyper Dado, as well as many more HPU students. The team raced a long 14 miles from Hawaiʻi Kai to Sand Island and finished strong.

In a statement from Dado, she said, “HPU has built up lots of diverse and culturally important clubs and organizations and we are hoping that an HPU paddling team can be one of those. As someone who is not from Hawaiʻi, I am glad to be a part of and learn about Hawaiian culture through classes, activities, and clubs thÅ·ÃÀAƬ offers and would love to have a paddling team be another way for students to participate and learn about Hawaiian culture.”
If current HPU students are interested in participating in the Imua One Blade club, contact Dado at: pdado1@my.hpu.edu.
