HPU’s College of Natural and Computational Sciences (CNCS) was abuzz with excitement during their (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) STEM welcome back event held September 14th, 2023. Led by the dynamic duo and CNCS senators Madeline Slade and Princess Paradise Pascua, the event was a resounding success, bringing together students, faculty, and the wonders of science.
From 4 p.m. to 6 pm, HPU's Hawaii Loa campus was alive with energy as various clubs, including the HUI SRC, SGA, Pre-Health Club, and Chemistry Club, joined forces to create a vibrant atmosphere. The goal was simple: to reignite the love for STEM in the HPU community.
Professor Horgen's experiment featured hydrogen gas contained in a balloon, oxygen, and an ignition source, resulting in a mesmerizing combustion in mid-air.

But the excitement didn't stop there. Horgen also wowed the audience by using methanol gas, oxygen, and a simple spark to launch a bottle high into the sky, akin to a rocket. This thrilling experiment showcased the power of science and left students with a newfound appreciation for chemistry.
