On Monday May 6, HPU held the 2024 "First Look Mixed Media Festival" at Aloha Tower Marketplace. HPU students, faculty, family, friends, cast and crew gathered for a screening of the top films, graphic design, motion graphic, photography and animation projects from the past academic year.

Awardees from this year Festival included: 

Best First Look Poster: Oda Wiik

Best Feature Film Screenplay: Dear Dad, Flor Contreras Regalado (Screenwriter)

Best Comedy Short Film: “Merry Go Again”, Ashley Bogushefsky (Writer-Director), Kyella O'Connor, Evan Kaczmarkzyc

Best Adaptation Short Film: “The Servant”, Makayla Kirven (Writer-Director), Flor Regalado, Stig Lapoint

Best Live-Action/Animation Sequence: “Judge a Book” Pirate Scene, Alyssa D’Arpa, Writer-Director, Kaylin-Ashley Bala (Animator), Wisal Silva (Animator), Flor Regalado 

Best Experimental Film: “This is a Computer”, Nadine Yearance (Writer-Director)

Best Surreal Film: “Atrapada”, Flor Regalado (Writer-Director)

Best Documentary: “A Conversation with Rob Ian and Francis Palea”, Ian Bressel (Writer-Director) 

Best BTS Documentary: “Ready, Set, Action”, Makayla Kirven & Flor Regalado (Writer-Directors) 

Best Sports Biography: “Swinging through School: Life of a College Golfer”, Kami Kwong (Writer-Director) 

Best Short Film: “Time/Less”, JD Arendt (Writer-Director)

 

The Festival is sponsored by the HPU multimedia cinematic production club, HPU cinematic multimedia arts program, HPU department of arts, communication, language, media, the HPU college of liberal arts, Hawaii Media Inc., Sight & Sound Productions, Island Film Group, Black Sand Productions, Hula Girl Productions, Edge City Films, and Iodice Media.
