April stands as a pivotal month in honoring the invaluable contributions of occupational therapy (OT) professionals nationwide, as it marks the observance of OT Month. These dedicated therapists wield a profound impact on the well-being and daily lives of numerous individuals grappling with a spectrum of conditions, disabilities, or injuries. OT Month serves as a platform for many engaging activities, aimed at enlightening the public and policymakers about the pivotal role played by OT professionals in rehabilitation, mental health, and pediatrics.

HPU’s hybrid 24-month Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) launches August 26, 2024, at their new Las Vegas campus located southwest of the Las Vegas Strip, a convenient 15-minute drive from the airport. The location boasts a brand-new space designed specifically for the OTD program. The on-site lab immersions feature an ADL (Activities of Daily Living) suite, including a functional kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom for practical learning.

“April shines a spotlight on the transformative power of occupational therapy, as we commemorate Occupational Therapy Month nationwide,” HPU OTD Las Vegas Program Director, Professor Robyn Otty, OTD, said. “At HPU, we're proud to champion this vital profession, dedicated to improving lives and fostering independence. As we prepare to launch our new OTD program in Las Vegas, we invite aspiring therapists to join us on April 4 for a virtual open house, where they can embark on a journey of discovery into the rewarding opportunities of occupational therapy.”

To coincide with OT Month, HPU’s OTD Las Vegas program team will host a virtual open house on April 4, 2024, at 1 p.m. HST and 3 p.m. HST, providing prospective students an opportunity to delve into the world of occupational therapy.

The deadline to apply for HPU’s OTD Las Vegas program inaugural cohort is June 7, 2024.

 

OTD — Honolulu Program

HPU’s OTD Honolulu program will launch its second cohort on January 6, 2025, and the application deadline is December 2, 2024.   

Situated in Kakaʻako, the urban campus provides a vibrant and culturally diverse environment. The newly constructed lab space at Waterfront Plaza offers a state-of-the-art simulation center and access to advanced technology for assessment and intervention. 

“Studying at our Honolulu campus offers kamaʻāina the opportunity to stay rooted in Hawai‘i while pursuing their education, enabling them to give back to their community upon graduation,” HPU OTD Honolulu Program Director, Assistant Professor Tracey Recigno said. “Non-resident students, on the other hand, immerse themselves in our vibrant island culture for two weeks per term, enjoying hands-on learning experiences amidst Hawai‘i's natural wonders. Our campus becomes a cherished part of their ‘ohana, fostering lasting connections that extend far beyond graduation.” 

HPU's OTD program offers students a robust educational journey that equips them with a comprehensive understanding of occupational therapy principles while fostering an environment conducive to continuous growth and development. Through a dynamic blend of social interaction and hybrid learning, students engage in collaborative endeavors with peers, educators, practitioners, and community members, enriching their educational experience. 

The program's culminating capstone experience not only challenges students to broaden their perspective to a global scale but also empowers them to embrace their role as catalysts for positive change within their communities, striving towards the realization of an occupationally-just society. With unwavering support and a commitment to excellence, HPU will prepare future occupational therapy practitioners to embark on their professional journey with confidence, competence, and compassion.
