This past summer, staff from Information Technology Services (ITS) were busy assisting with campus closures, moves, design, and construction of our ever-transforming HPU campus landscape.
As HPU continues to re-focus its operations in and around downtown Honolulu due to the end of rental agreements at Hawaii Loa and Model Progress building (MP), members of the Client Services team were active over the summer. Partnering with Premier Environmental Services for the removal of e-waste, they removed *10,120 pounds of e-waste from these two locations and from the Waterfront and the Pioneer Plaza locations.
Staff and student workers from the multimedia team, led by Mark Nitta, director of Instructional Technology and Client Services, dismantled and transported items from the Multimedia Lab and Studio at the MP building to the third floor of Pioneer Plaza, where the ITS office is located. Parts of the Multimedia Lab will be temporarily located in this space. The location of the Studio has not yet been confirmed.
The Client Services team, in cooperation with the Networking team, has also been overseeing the creation and installation of network and audio-visual technology (AV) in the new classroom spaces - WP4-300 and the new Science Labs Building on Fort Street Mall. In addition to these classrooms, four Physician Assistant Exam rooms and one control room were recently outfitted with audio-visual technology at Waterfront Plaza. The Client Services and Networking teams are also working together to oversee the conversion of old office space into classrooms at the Makapuu campus.
Network analysts, Aaron Tarbet Hust and Starr Rivera, assisted with the set up of a point-to-point link connecting Shark Tank to Dever House, the new home of the Athletics department at the former St. Francis School in Manoa. They also installed a switch and three access points to provide network connectivity to staff and coaches who will be working at the new location.
ITS teams have also been designing and coordinating the installation of AV and networking at the Las Vegas campus, where HPU’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) programs will commence classes.
