Jennifer Baumstark.
HPU Assistant Professor of Nursing Jennifer Baumstark, DNP, APRN, CNM, recently presented at the American Association Colleges of Nursing (AACN) doctoral education conference in Coronado, California. Her presentation entitled, "Nurse Advocates for Gender Diverse People" focused on people who identify outside of the binary genders of male and female, and their need for advocates in healthcare.
"I was honored to speak at the doctoral education conference: passion, purpose, and partnerships, inspiring excellence in doctoral nursing education," said Baumstark. "My podium presentation aimed to discuss the importance of gender diversity education in all levels of nursing curricula to improve healthcare delivery to this vulnerable and marginalized population."
Baumstark’s presentation was based on her doctoral research, which proved that allowing nurses time to consider any unconscious bias they may have allowed for their transformation of thought. Nurses also increased their awareness of and aimed to be advocates for gender-diverse individuals.
The annual AACN doctoral conference took place this year from January 19-21; Baumstark presented on January 20. For additional information on the 2023 conference, and information on the 2024 conference in Florida
